Early Life and Education
John Edmund Mulaney was born on August 26, 1982, in Chicago, Illinois. He is the third of five children in a family deeply rooted in law and academia. His mother, Ellen Stanton Mulaney, is a law professor at Northwestern University, and his father, Charles "Chip" Mulaney Jr., is an attorney and partner at Skadden Arps. Both parents are of Irish Catholic descent and attended Georgetown University and Yale Law School .
Mulaney attended St. Ignatius College Prep in Chicago before enrolling at Georgetown University, where he majored in English and minored in theology. During his time at Georgetown, he joined the Georgetown Players Improv Group, honing his comedic skills and laying the foundation for his future career in comedy .
Career Beginnings and "Saturday Night Live"
After graduating in 2004, Mulaney moved to New York City to pursue a career in comedy. He started as an office assistant at Comedy Central and soon began performing stand-up comedy. In 2008, he joined the writing staff of "Saturday Night Live" (SNL), where he worked until 2013. During his tenure, he co-created the popular character Stefon with Bill Hader and contributed to numerous sketches. Mulaney has since hosted SNL six times, joining the show's prestigious Five-Timers Club in 2022 .

He began dating actress Olivia Munn in 2021, and they welcomed their first child, a son named Malcolm Hiệp Mulaney, in December 2021. The couple married in July 2024 and had a daughter, Méi June, born via surrogate in September 2024 .
Recent Projects and Tours
In 2024, Mulaney launched the Netflix talk show "Everybody's Live with John Mulaney," a live weekly series featuring celebrity interviews and comedic segments. The show, which premiered on May 21, 2024, showcases Mulaney's unique approach to the late-night format
